The Position:
Senior Software Engineer in Test – Device Certification (Contract)

For over a year, Netflix members have been able to instantly watch movies and TV programs on their PC. The Instant Watch feature of our service continues to be a critical part of Netflix’s evolution into media distribution to the home. As we explore new methods to deliver movies and branch out into new markets, our subscriber base continues to grow exponentially along with our instant viewing catalog, currently offering more than 12,000 titles.

The Netflix Electronic Delivery service is rapidly extending the Instant Watch feature from the PC into the consumer electronics market - allowing our customers to stream movies directly to the living room. We have announced partnerships with Roku, LG Electronics, and Microsoft Xbox – but this is just the beginning. The adoption of Netflix Ready Device support has been enthusiastic, and continues to be one of the most rapidly growing areas of the company.

We are looking for an experienced QA engineer who is passionate about working on cutting edge media delivery technology and has a strong background in testing consumer electronics embedded devices. You should be familiar with testing Internet streaming technologies such as SVOD, VOD, or IPTV.

In this role you will be part of a growing team that is the first to evaluate and certify all existing and future Netflix Ready Devices. The Device Certification team is chartered to ensure that Netflix members are provided with a reliable and exceptional TV program and movie viewing experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and develop test strategies for a wide variety of consumer electronic devices (Flash STBs, Blu-ray players, Game Consoles, TVs, etc.).
• Create and execute black box and grey box test specifications and test cases.
• Create and maintain test data and related documentation for Netflix third party device partners.
• Troubleshoot issues found during our partner’s development life cycle.
• Execute and troubleshoot automated tests using open source and commercially available test tools.
• Clearly convey issues and defects to the Electronic Delivery Services group and other groups within the company.

REQUIREMENTS

• Experience developing and utilizing a variety of test tools and approaches for embedded devices.
• A high degree of skill in troubleshooting and characterizing software defects.
• Successful track record shipping consumer electronic digital media devices.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Organized, methodical, creative, self-motivated.
• BS, BE, or equivalent.

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Working knowledge of digital and analog A/Vformats.
• Working knowledge of networking protocols and standards.
• Experience testing end-to-end aspects of client-server architectures.
• Experience supporting internal and external customers.
• Working knowledge of test automation frameworks such as Silk Test, TestComplete, WinRunner, etc.
•Knowledge of Linux, Shell scripting, SQL
• Knowledge of Windows DRM and related technologies.
